Galaxy’s Garbers: “Anything short of a perfect season and championship would be disappointing”

With Ethan Garbers, Frankfurt Galaxy signed a quarterback who already brings significant experience from college football despite his young age. The former UCLA signal caller is preparing for his first season in Europe and already appears fully settled just days before kickoff. After his unexpected move from the Madrid Bravos to Frankfurt, Garbers openly spoke about why joining Frankfurt Galaxy quickly felt like the perfect decision.

“Frankfurt was just a great program with a lot of history and I wanted to be a part of that,” Garbers explained. After his originally planned move to Madrid suddenly fell through, the quarterback had to react quickly. Only a few days later, Frankfurt Galaxy reached out with serious interest. Looking back, Garbers has no doubts about the decision he made. “This was definitely the best choice,” said the former UCLA quarterback.

The first weeks in Frankfurt have left a very positive impression on Garbers. The quarterback especially praised the professionalism throughout the organization. “Coach K runs a really great program here,” Garbers explained. At the same time, he admitted he was impressed by the overall level of talent both inside Frankfurt Galaxy and European football in general. “There’s real football being played over here,” the quarterback said. According to Garbers, the quality of many European players has exceeded his expectations.

On the field, Garbers describes himself as a controlled quarterback who can efficiently manage the game while still attacking defenses vertically when necessary. “I’m going to be a great game manager and push the ball downfield when needed,” the quarterback explained. He also wants to use his mobility to extend plays and throw from different angles. According to Garbers, that combination fits perfectly into the offense of Frankfurt Galaxy.

A major factor in the transition has been the work with Offensive Coordinator Brandon Corbin. According to Garbers, both sides have approached the offense collaboratively from the beginning. The overall goal is simple: get the playmakers the ball in space as often as possible. Garbers also spoke highly of Frankfurt Galaxy’s receiving corps. He specifically mentioned Paul Kavadia-Lenhardt, Normen Schumm, Tyler Foster, and Ahsan Moore as players who have impressed him throughout camp. In addition, the quarterback praised tight end Adria Botella Moreno, calling him “an absolute beast.” The offensive line has also stood out to Garbers. Several linemen already have experience in the United States and impressed him with their physicality and football IQ. “That was probably my biggest positive surprise,” Garbers said about the five players protecting him up front.

Garbers also described his relationship with Head Coach Thomas Kösling as extremely positive. According to the quarterback, Kösling was the very first person from Frankfurt Galaxy who contacted him after the situation with Madrid changed. That connection quickly became an important factor in his decision. Garbers especially praised the transparency and honesty throughout the entire process. “He’s truly a world class guy and a great head coach,” the quarterback explained.

Despite his young age, Garbers already gained experience at a high level during his college career. At UCLA, he worked under Chip Kelly, one of the most respected offensive minds in American football. According to Garbers, Kelly played a major role in shaping him as a quarterback. He especially learned how to approach weekly preparation and how to better understand the quarterback position mentally.

Looking ahead to the new EFA season, Garbers expects strong competition among the league’s quarterbacks. Names like Jadrian Clark and Zach Edwards are obviously well known. Garbers revealed that Clark was actually very helpful during the process of deciding to come to Europe and stayed open to answering questions. At the same time, the Frankfurt Galaxy quarterback is already looking forward to competing against some of the best quarterbacks in Europe. Individual awards, however, are not his main focus. “The most important thing is simply winning every game,” Garbers explained. According to him, everything else will come naturally with team success.

Garbers also made the ambitions for the season very clear. “Anything short of a perfect season and championship would be disappointing for me,” said the Frankfurt Galaxy quarterback. “We’re nothing short of a championship and we’re not satisfied.” That mentality is exactly how the former UCLA signal caller enters his first season in Europe.

Frankfurt Galaxy will open the 2026 EFA season on May 15th at 7:30 PM with a “Friday Night Lights” matchup against the Paris Musketeers at PSD Bank Arena. The American football themed event will also feature a large “Power Party” around the stadium starting at 4:30 PM.
