Last Chance for the BIG4: Galaxy Battles for a Playoff Spot in Prague

The European Football Alliance regular season reaches its climax this weekend. When Frankfurt Galaxy travels to face the Prague Lions on Sunday, the stakes could hardly be higher for the German side. A victory would secure Frankfurt’s place in the inaugural BIG4 Playoff Weekend. Prague, meanwhile, has already been eliminated from playoff contention following last week’s loss to the Raiders Tirol.

But despite having nothing left to play for in the standings, the Lions will be highly motivated. It is their final home game of the season and an opportunity to deny a direct rival a place in the playoffs.

Galaxy Controls Its Own Destiny

After three consecutive defeats, the pressure is firmly on Frankfurt. The 47–9 loss to Nordic Storm once again highlighted the Galaxy’s injury problems, particularly along the offensive line. Nevertheless, the situation remains straightforward: win in Prague, and the BIG4 ticket is secured.

Even with a loss, Frankfurt still has mathematical paths to the playoffs. The Galaxy would also qualify if the Paris Musketeers defeat the Raiders Tirol, or if Tirol wins by 14 points or more. However, Frankfurt has no intention of relying on results elsewhere.

Following the quarterback change, Zach Calzada will make just his second appearance in Europe. The former U.S. college standout had very little time to adapt to his new team before facing Nordic Storm. With another full week of practice behind him, the chemistry with his teammates should be noticeably improved.

Prague Looking to End the Season on a High Note

For the Prague Lions, the dream of reaching the BIG4 came to an end with last week’s defeat against the Raiders Tirol. Even so, the Czech franchise is determined to finish its season with a victory in front of its home crowd.

Last season’s meeting provides additional motivation. It was Frankfurt Galaxy that ended Prague’s playoff hopes a year ago. Now the Lions have an opportunity to return the favor and make life far more difficult for the Galaxy.

Prague will, however, have to cope without one of its biggest offensive weapons. Leading receiver William Patterson suffered an injury last week and will miss Sunday’s game. That places even more responsibility on quarterback Jaylon Henderson, whose ability as both a passer and runner continues to make him one of the league’s most dangerous players.

Can Frankfurt’s Defense Make the Difference?

While Prague has allowed more points than any other team in the EFA this season, Frankfurt’s defense remains statistically one of the league’s strongest units despite two difficult weeks.

One of the key matchups will be between Zach Calzada and the Lions secondary. Prague defensive backs Jan Krs and Alexander Borković have each recorded an interception over the past two games and will look to put the new Galaxy quarterback under pressure early.

For Frankfurt, however, the primary objective is to rediscover its winning form. After three straight defeats, a victory would not only secure a place at the BIG4 Playoff Weekend but also provide a significant boost of confidence heading into the postseason.

Everything is set for an exciting regular season finale. Frankfurt is fighting for a playoff berth, while Prague is looking to close out its season with a memorable home victory. Both teams have plenty of motivation to leave everything on the field on Sunday.
