Munich Ravens and Raiders Tirol close out Week 1 of the EFA

Frankfurt Galaxy against the Paris Musketeers opens the new European Football Alliance on Friday. On Saturday, Nordic Storm faces the Prague Lions. The third major highlight game of Week 1 will finally take place on Sunday evening at Munich’s Grünwalder Stadion. With the “Battle of the Mountains” between the Munich Ravens and Raiders Tirol, the first gameday of the new league immediately closes with a true statement game for European football.

It is one of those games that already feels special weeks before kickoff. Big stadium. Two ambitious organizations. New league. New storylines. And two teams that immediately want to prove they belong among the heavyweights of the European Football Alliance. The Munich Ravens enter the southern showdown as slight favorites. While Munich reached the semifinals last season and finally established itself as a top European team, Raiders Tirol missed the playoffs. But that is exactly why all of football Europe is currently looking toward Innsbruck. Raiders Tirol want to return to the top and brought back perhaps their most important piece to make that happen: Head Coach Shuan Fatah. The successful coach returns to Tirol and is expected to bring Raiders Tirol back the mentality that once made the organization one of the most dominant teams in Europe. Since the first team transitioned from the traditional club structure into a franchise competing in a European league, the major sporting success has remained absent. That is exactly what now needs to change.

Fatah himself made very clear what drives him: “I’m somebody who is very competitive. Somebody who doesn’t want to waste time and really wants to play against the best.” At quarterback, Raiders Tirol also begin a new chapter with Steven Krajewski. The American is expected to make the offense explosive again and already sounded excited after his first weeks in Tirol: “It’s like a really close family and that’s the best thing you can ask for in a team.” But the Munich Ravens have also strengthened an already talented roster even further. Quarterback Russell Tabor impressed many critics last season and led the Munich Ravens to the semifinals. Now he has even more weapons around him. With Louis Geyer, the Munich Ravens signed a newly crowned ELF champion from Stuttgart Surge and one of the best German wide receivers in Europe. In addition, Justus Seelig joins Munich as one of the most exciting running back additions in the entire league. Together with Justin Rodney, the duo could become a major problem for opposing defenses. Malik Stanley already remains one of the most explosive deep threats in Europe. Defensively, Munich continues to rely on its physical and aggressive style of play. Wael Nasri remains the emotional leader of the defense, while Dominik Schmid arrives from the Allgäu Comets as one of the most consistent German linebackers of recent years.

The fact that this game takes place inside the historic Grünwalder Stadion makes the weekend even more special. For the first time, the Munich Ravens bring international top level football into one of Germany’s most iconic stadiums. That is also meant to send a message for the new league itself. Munich Ravens General Manager Sean Shelton described the significance clearly: “It’s a clear sign that football in Germany is growing.” And that is exactly what fans can expect: two offensively loaded teams. Emotions. Big names. New storylines. And most likely a game that could be decided in the final minutes. Week 1 of the new EFA therefore ends exactly the way a league could hope to launch its first season: with a true European football highlight in the heart of Munich.
