Prague Lions stun Paris in instant EFA classic

The European Football Alliance delivered perhaps its most dramatic game of the inaugural season on Saturday evening. In front of their home crowd at Stadion Žižkov, the Prague Lions defeated the Paris Musketeers 36:35 after overtime in a breathtaking contest that featured multiple lead changes, a last second field goal, and a successful two point conversion to decide the game.

The victory not only gave Prague revenge for its heavy Week 2 defeat in Paris, but also kept the Czech club firmly alive in the race for the EFA BIG4 Semi Final Weekend. The Lions improved to 2-5, while the Musketeers dropped to 3-4 after suffering a second consecutive defeat.

Lions dominate early behind Henderson

Prague controlled the game from the opening kickoff. Quarterback Jaylon Henderson engineered a methodical 12 play opening drive that ended with a 13 yard touchdown pass to Martin Havelka. Kicker Marek Hrubon later added a 40 yard field goal, giving the Lions an early 10:0 advantage.

Paris struggled to find any rhythm early, committing two costly fumbles in the opening quarter. Although the Musketeers finally responded with a 13 yard rushing touchdown by Jason Bofunda in the second quarter, Prague answered immediately. Hrubon drilled a 47 yard field goal as time expired before halftime to extend the lead to 13:7.

Prague extends the lead before Paris storms back

The Lions appeared to seize full control after halftime.

Following another Paris turnover, Henderson led a nine play, 88 yard touchdown drive that ended with a scoring pass to William Patterson for a 19:7 advantage.

From there, however, the momentum completely shifted.

An explosive 81 yard touchdown strike from Zach Edwards to Hugo Tekedam sparked the Paris comeback before Edwards himself added a rushing touchdown to give the Musketeers their first lead of the afternoon at 20:19.

Prague answered once again as Henderson found Matyáš Bílý for a 28 yard touchdown with just 1:40 remaining, restoring the Lions’ advantage at 25:20.

Yet Paris refused to quit. Zach Edwards quickly marched the offense downfield before connecting with Cheikhou Sow for a 19 yard touchdown with only 30 seconds remaining. The successful two point conversion appeared to have won the game for the Musketeers, putting them ahead 28:25.

Hrubon forces overtime before Prague completes the miracle

With only thirty seconds remaining and no timeouts, Prague still found one final answer.

Henderson quickly moved the offense into field goal range, setting up Marek Hrubon for a spectacular 54 yard kick as time expired. The ball sailed through the uprights to tie the game at 28:28 and send the first overtime thriller in recent EFA history into an extra period.

Paris received the ball first and answered with a 13 play, 76 yard drive capped by Nicolas Khandar’s six yard touchdown run. After the successful extra point, the pressure shifted entirely onto Prague.

The Lions responded with remarkable composure.

Henderson once again marched his offense the length of the field before finding Matyáš Bílý for a 21 yard touchdown. Rather than settling for the extra point, Prague Head Coach decided to go for the win. Henderson connected with Bílý once again on the two point conversion, sealing an unforgettable 36:35 victory and sending the home crowd into celebration.

Jaylon Henderson delivered one of the finest quarterback performances of the EFA season, completing 25 of 35 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns while adding another 98 rushing yards. Matyáš Bílý finished with 109 receiving yards and two touchdown catches, including both the game tying touchdown in regulation and the game winning score in overtime.

Despite outgaining Prague 528 to 450 total yards, Paris was ultimately undone by three lost fumbles and crucial mistakes at key moments. Zach Edwards threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score, but it was not enough to prevent a heartbreaking defeat.

With the victory, the Prague Lions remain firmly in the hunt for an EFA BIG4 Semi Final spot, while the Paris Musketeers now face significant pressure heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
