Our officials are the third team on the field and in the booth for every EFA game. Seven officials wearing the stripes plus a team in the booth overseeing the game clock, play clock, and replay, and ruling on approximately 160 or so plays during each contest. EFA officials are selected based on competitive exams and their performances on the field. As with the players and coaches in the EFA, officials come from Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and other countries. Each man and woman brings decades of experience, too, having officiated at the highest levels for International Federation of American Football, NCAA, ELF, and European club football games.
During the off-season, our officials put in extraordinary time studying the rules, reviewing videos, attending clinics, and participating in organized team scrimmages. A dedicated web platform provides access to rulebooks, educational materials, and reference content to support their continuous learning and growth.
During the season, Frank Kristensen, Head of Officiating, and his staff evaluate officials’ game performances and share those evaluations with officials who also evaluate their own performances. The goals: consistency, professionalism, and long-term officiating development.
